Indication: Zoledronic acid is a bisphosphonate class drug used in the treatment of hyperglycemia (high blood calcium level) and multiple myeloma. The drug is also used along with chemotherapy for the treatment of different types of bone problems caused due to cancer and multiple myeloma.
Functioning of drug: The metastatic cancer cells reach to the bone and produce certain substances that dissolve the osteoclast present in the bone. This causes the weakening of bone. As zoledronic acid is a bisphosphonate it slows down the dissolution of osteoclast. The zoledronic acid uses help in order to prevent the bone fractures and decrease the complications. Dosage: This drug is available in an injection form that is injected intravenously, no oral pill form is available. Different concentrations of the injections are 4 mg/100 mL, 4 mg/5 mL available in a single-use vial. Storage: The vial is stored at 2°C – 8°C.
